Apple 13.3" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, 2.9GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM, Intel Iris Graphics 550, Silver (Late 2016) $1399

Adorama [adorama.com] have the 13" MBP w/ touchbar, 8GB RAM and 512 GB SSD for an impressively low $1399. It is the late 2016 model, but given the price of Apple's SSD storage, flirting with the teething troubles of the 1st generation touchbar model may well be worth it.

It seems that Apple is aware of the keyboard issues and has even been replacing touchbar models outright, according to Macrumors...

Still available, after redirecting make sure to tap or click on the actual product link. It'll take you to the page and you can then add to cart.

I had no problem getting to the correct link, but that may be because I found the deal first and then came to SD to post. When I checked from my 'phone, I did get "No longer available" on my browser, but hitting refresh brought the correct page up again. I can add it to my cart without any problem.

Uhh huh. For now, that'll require the 15" MBP.

For you, maybe. If you don't need it, don't buy it. But Apple obviously think they can charge $1999 for this laptop with the extra storage, so there must be a market out there somewhere. Saving $600 on that option is well worth it - believe me, I've been looking for months.

I added to my cart without a problem, although I didn't actually go all the way through the checkout process.

FWIW, this is the best deal on this combo I've found since I started looking before BF after the wife hinted that her 10 year-old Macbook was "running a bit slow". She hasn't tried the new shallow keyboard yet, so a trip to a store is needed before I pull the trigger. There's a "husband-wife Macbook shopping trip" voucher in her Christmas card. Only hope this deal is still there if she gives it the thumbs up. This season's Macbook Pro deals have been rather disappointing, IMO, so 30% off is pretty darned notable, in that context.

I tried the keyboard 3 different times and just couldn't do it. I did not feel like having to learn a new way to type. You may find more savings for the same configuration without the touch bar. I will be waiting for a 2018 15 inch as rumors are that the touchbar is going away due to consumer feedback and lack of developer adoption, and hopefully they do something with the keyboard and ports or lack there of.

You're right. 2TB is needed.

I wasn't particularly interested in the touchbar model, but I've not seen a better price for a nTB model with 512GB SSD. However, the improved cooling performance of the TB models cf. nTB, and reading about complaints with the latter regarding cooling fan noise, led me to consider the TB models. Plus, the processor is more powerful (which is doubtless why the cooling system is better).

Still, I'll look into it a bit more - especially if Apple are thinking of ditching the TB.

Based on what logic? Each person needs their own specific storage. Photo enthusiasts might need this for example

I agree on the keyboard part. I still feel the pain of being my fingers on it. The travel is so minimal, it's a new way of typing. I can't get used to it. External keyboards will be the answer I think.

Really loving the keyboard on my surface book.
