I am looking for media player to use KODI and YouTube apps only.
Seems like KODI can be installed, but what about Youtube app? Anyone knows?

It streams your pc. What you can do merely boils down to what your pc can do. No optimization except for steam games. Need wired internet. Possibly ok with 5.0ghz wireless but for movies or Netflix. Games won't stream wireless well enough for the experience. For Kodi and YouTube.. nvidia shield is a tier 1 product with android gaming option. But cheaper option is with fire tv or chromecast and good phone.. or chromecast ultra but only if u have 4K tv.

Thanks. Now, I truly understand what the Steam Link does.
The Fire TV 3 was a great product that run YouTube apps(doesn't support next year, but anyway) and KODI smoothly. But My 70 yr old parents keep pressing and buying non-free Videos at the HOME page by mistake. And seems like to way to disable the ads. So I return and was looking for similar product.

I am thinking about Shield TV. Also console around $200, xbox One or PS4 Slim

Eventually, kodi will be on Xbox one s. If Microsoft doesn't block the development.

You may be able to find bare Xbox one s for $150 now and then. Nvidia Shield is a good option provided u got no other box. It at least can YouTube.. fire tv we will see if google and amazon will follow through on their makeup. I blame amazon for stirring up that pot.. refusing to stock on google products the capital pigs they are.

You could also do kodilauncher on Alienware alpha and side load YouTube. Last slickdeal $200. Well worth it imo and little chance of needing any upgrade if kodi + YouTube all u need. And it's a pc.

I wish people wouldn't post this. Steamlink works very well on wireless, if you have decent wireless equipment. I have google Wifi(2 pucks) and have zero issues with my steamlink being wireless and my PC plugged into the Ethernet switch. If you have a old router or a cheap router, you will have issues, but you will have issues with lots of things.

User experience. Either it works or it doesnt. Gaming just doesnt work hitch free so ppl need to know that local hdd is still the way. Im not saying it wouldnt work but -any- issues will take away from the experience. Audio delay is one example of problem i face. Wireless just never worked for me. Im glad that your experience proved successful.. only wish that would be the case for the average consumer.

P.S. passive viewing can be done flawlessly.

Again, weigh on the issue at hand and not false info about it not working on wireless. Wireless when setup Correctly works great. Now can wireless not work? Sure but it's more so other factors that stop it from working IE: Wireless router location, speed, age, technology, size of house, type of walls, etc. It's not that the Steam doesn't work correctly with wireless. When properly placed with correct wireless technology, the Steam link works GREAT with wireless(which i've also read many times on here and other reddit threads).

"user experience".. any issues. its not false. i did not invalidate your point but you just said when setup "correctly".

the variables u mention would make it too perfect to work correctly. Most users will have problems. you just happened to be the few who got lucky.
