I've personally shot with this lens after renting it for the supermoon one year. While I was on full frame the details are pretty incredible even at wide open. Sure, this is no super telephoto L-lens from Canon aimed at sport photographers, this will be plenty as long as you're not expecting fast-lens-like performance. With adequate lighting and good tripod and head it's a solid lens.

Some examples: (see attached) I've been very pleased. I almost went with the 'sport' but, I don't shoot in the rain.

Great deal. Amazon was selling a few at this price yesterday - but that deal seems to be gone. This is the lowest I've seen from a "reputiable" dealer. Nice....

It should. I have a T7i and it works fine.
Per the product page on Amazon:
Quote :
  • COMPATIBILITY: This Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.4 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens is compatible with all Canon SLR/DSLR Cameras (Including CANON EOS Rebel T61, T6S, 5DS, 5DR, XT, XTi, XS, XSi, T1i, T2i, T3, T3i, T4i, T5, T5i, SL1, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 70D, 1D, 1D MARK II, 1D MARK II N, 1D MARK III, 1D MARK IV, 5D, 5D MARK II, 5D MARK III, 6D, 7D 7D MARK II, 1Ds, 1Ds MARK II, 1Ds MARK III and 1D X).
Another thought, I bought the Sigma USB programming dock with mine. When I shoot aircraft they are usually at least 500 feet away, thus I have programmed a setting switch that changes the focusing range to where the lens does can not focus on the near stuff, speeding up the focus process. I've also put the AF speed on high. (at the cost of some battery life)

https://www.sigmaphoto.com/sigma-usb-dock

Also to add, I use a pistol grip mounted in the lens tri-pod hole when hand-holding this beast : not this one, but like it. https://www.amazon.com/CAMVATE-Al...B014HHYPN4

Can anyone comment on this lens vs the tamron G2 version? it's on sale for $1099.

from what i understand, the tamron g2 is faster and is lighter? sound about right? i just wonder how much "better" it is for the extra $310.

TIA

Tamron G2 is weather sealed, faster at auto focus. Both are about the same for sharpness. IMO if you need weather seal then go Tamron, if not the save the money and go Sigma.

Sigma is a very heavy one compared to Tamron and others. Tamron and Canon comes in around 3+ lbs. Sigma is 4+.

Also a tiny bit sharper and faster in focus but not much difference for day to day shooting.

For me it's probably the weight difference making me want the Tamron more. So I will wait for now.

Hmm this was $679 with the USB dock included last year. Wish I had gotten it then.
