I've had cutters like this before and they're crap. For $0.50 more the hakko looks infinitely better.

Like this or these, exactly? I've used this one to trim solder leads for awhile now and it works like a charm. I've used it to cut plenty of small gauge wire as well. I wouldn't use it on anything over 16 gauge, but I don't think it's meant for that application anyway.

use a similar one to smoothly cut off zip ties so no one gets cut or nipped by the sharp edges. i paid like $4 so this is about right price-wise.

For tools, I would rather spend a couple more on those that last.

Identical pair, long since threw them out. Spring eventually broke and they bound up.

Saying they work like a charm for solder leads is like saying a gun shoots things. These aren't ergonomic, the head is too large for fine wires and precision work and it also does a crappy job of cutting larger gauges.

For $0.50 more I guarantee that the hakkos will exceed the performance of these in every way. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0...XSNK3A00XC

This is not a slickdeal unless they were on sale for less than a dollar.

If you don't like the deal, give it a TD. That's your right as a user here.

Don't get me wrong. I love nice tools. But I have plenty of tools I don't use that often. Ergonomics and quality often don't matter all that much. I used me cheapo wheel puller once and was successful. It'll be ready for use in a decade or so. Absolutely no reason to spend 6x more on a quality brand. The ratchet used with that wheel puller gets used at least once a month. It's better quality because it actually works on a regular basis.

If this product was less than $1 your argument would stand but when you can get something ergonomic and better for $0.50 more it makes no sense. Don't forget that being cheap =/= being frugal.

Also I have a pair of Plato cutters that I got free at a trade show. I would consider them quality and they're not 6x more than these. You can find quality cutters for $10 or less.
