saying that you don't need to get them anything and to enjoy, what would you do? I just had this happen with somebody I've played with on PSN since around 2009 or so. They said they were out to go to their families house for dinner and just dropped the code for a year of PS+ in a message on PSN. How do I know it's a year of PS+? It has the same 3-4 characters in the first section of it that the one I bought myself from Amazon last fall had.

They keep telling me they're not going to take it back and to use it and enjoy, but I can't in good conscience do so. The honest, moral and upstanding part of me would feel obligated to get them something in return if I used the code.

I already feel bad since I know digital codes are non refundable once generated usually regardless of if they're used or not.

If you want to get them something, do it, but you're not obligated to get them anything. This was a gift. When I give gifts, I don't have the expectation of always receiving something in return. That's not the point of giving.

It's better to give than to receive.

I guess. Either way they told me it was a $10 PSN code, which is still a very nice and unwanted gesture for somebody who doesn't know me from a hole in the ground and vice versa. I still declined it.

From my own experiences, he uses and abuses the sites he is a member of. He cares about no one but himself. If there's a deal ANYWHERE, he is the person to buy 100x of whatever it is to resell for profit, and usually get the deal pulled or canceled.

He lives near me. A couple years ago, he bought five copies of a game on clearance at target closest to me. Bragged about it here then soon found out the trade value wasn't worth a 'flip'. When I called him on it for being a scumbag for buying out the stock, he PM'ed me and told me he would now purposely return them to a target far away from me so I can't get a copy for myself.
Whine more, please.

Since you don't feel right accepting it for yourself, could you pass it on to someone else to use? Maybe the giver was doing a "good deed/pay it forward" thing when they gave it to you. Just keep that going, maybe?

They asked if I'd be OK if they gave it to our other friend we always play with. He said he'd give it to them in my name.

You know the funny thing is about an hour or two later I decided to re-up my Playstation Plus and decided I could've used it. laugh out loud FacepalmFacepalmDoh Luckily I had almost $200 in gift card credit on Amazon so I just decided to buy a $50 PSN card and use some credit I already had on there to make up the rest.

I gift steam friends games all the time. I feel if they can put up with me they deserve a gift. But as jabbi-poo said, it's better to give than receive.

LMAO Yeah. I imagine I should've been the one giving a gift to him since I've been rather annoying on PSN at times. Between complaining about PS+ being required and the price to how I dislike just about everything that Rockstar Games has done with GTA, yet going right back to playing it for more than a few hours this morning I imagine they were quite frustrated with me more than once.Facepalm

I do have a coworker whose husband was in a somewhat similar situation as yours. Someone he's only played games with online bought him an xbox one and shipped it to them. She wouldn't let him keep it lol. That is an extreme though. I'm fine sending and receiving cheaper digital gifts $20 or less.

laugh out loud OK. Who thumbed down my thread? And I didn't even realize we COULD do that on the more off topic forums.
