You're comparing this Mac laptop to your grandma's custom desktop PC? OK, so how thin and light and portable is your grandma's PC? How's the quality of her wide-color Retina display? How long does her battery last? Is her multitouch trackpad nice and responsive too?

Also, why the hell does your grandma need 20GB of ram? I do a lot of design work, and none of my 5 computers (all 2015 or newer) have more that 16GB (most have 8) and I've never had a problem with any of them. 8GB, especially for a portable, is quite modern and plenty for most people.

I'm an Apple fan, but sometimes they are a hard pill to swallow. I just built my grandma a computer with 20gig of ram, SSD, and an i5 for $350. $1400 and you're only getting 8 gig of ram. How much more would it really cost Apple to give customers modern specd computers?
They are definitely charging a premium but you gotta remember it comes with s really flat panel and they also had to design the chassis to fit everything neatly. It's not just about parts man.

You can't go wrong with it, but I saw it at $1,299 yesterday with something from Apple Insider?

Correction: that was 256. Wow, 512 for $1,399 is SOLID!

Not sure where/how people who say this use their laptops but everywhere I ever use my computer has wireless internet which, with Dropbox or similar, eliminates any need for dongles.

It isn't cause of memory that you need the dongles. From my understanding the pro only comes with thunderbolt ports so if you need to attach an hdmi or any other USB port you need a dongle or a dock

I bought one and thats the only thing I hate from this machine. I bought the HDMI/ USB dongle. It is something I don't use everyday but the need of a dongle defeat the purpose of portability.

Maybe they just want the electronic industry to move foward vs. making more money selling the dongles.

You're comparing throwing together a beige desktop with junk parts to a MBP that will run faster, cooler, lighter, without Win10, with a warranty.

You may as well compare a shopping cart to a BMW because they both have 4 wheels.
