I personally hate solid wire. I would have bought it if it was stranded

FYI: Amazon has this for the same price, as an add on item.

What would this be good for? Maybe an alarm system?

That's comparing apples and oranges. They serve totally different purposes...

Exactly. That's so called "mod wire". Insulation is more heat resistant than plain pvc. That allows quick soldering very close to the stripped part without melting the insulation.

Fwiw, one of the few detailed reviews on Amazon claims the yellow insulation was much, much less heat resistant than the other colors. And since he commented favorably on the others, it didn't seem like any sort of backhanded effort to "slam" the product in general.)

Not sure how's it possible. Insulation composition should be the same according to the description. Polyvinylidene (PVDF) or KYNAR. Color should not matter. Will try when I get it.

Please do report. Offhand I can't think of specific variations in the same base substance that might result in such different melting points, but it certainly doesn't seem to me to stretch the bounds of the possible that, for one reason or another, either all of that color wire, or maybe just a particular production ran, wound up "different" enough to have a significantly lower melting point, and of course "should be the same according to the description" doesn't necessarily mean "is in fact the same".

I can't comment personally either way, but as I wrote earlier, it seems like a rather strange thing to lie about given the reviewer's positive comments of the brand's other colors of the same wire, so pending further evidence, I'm inclined to accept the comment at face value...

I report it as quality mod wire. Melting point is high, and it doesn't shrink back under heat. Probably that strange review was for a low strip force version of this wire that is designed solely for solderless wire wrapping and has different part number.
Online order pickup is cool at Walmart. Fully automated, scan the barcode from the order in the app and it dispense the package.

That would certainly explain it. As an aside, he might've been sent the wrong thing, too, and didn't think to check that part # on the product itself...
