I wish these batteries had a built in speaker to tell my family not to throw them away.

8 - Made in Japan = Eneloop/Fujitsu
12 - Made in China = crap

MIJ hold 70% charge for a year or something...
MIC hold 50% after a couple of weeks...

Not really sure how these are a good deal when the 12 pack is the same price as the regular price as the 8 pack. It should be cheaper than the 8 pack.

made in Japan cells are usually much better ! panasonic (eneloops), fujitsu, amazonbasic (just look for "made in Japan" - Chinese don't state country of origin!) Wink + they last much longer ! Rock

It should be cheaper than the 8 pack? Why should the 12 pack be cheaper?

Read the reviews & Q/A:

Quote from NLee the Engineer
:
They are both advertised as 'pre-charged' and have the same capacity ratings. However, the white version is made in Japan and appears to be rebranded 2nd-gen Sanyo eneloop. The black version is made in China by some unknown manufacturer, and its charge-retention rate is not as good as that of the Sanyo eneloop. Obviously the white version is a better product. The black version is only worth considering if you can get it for cheap.
[Update on June 12, 2017] CAUTION! Amazon has changed the color of the lower quality (Made in China) batteries to White, presumably just to confuse consumers. If you look at the product image for 'Batteries only' you'll see the new White wrappers. But if you click on 'Batteries with Charger' you'll see the old Black wrappers.

Quote from AW
:
These batteries work great for one or two cycles and then quickly degrade to a point where they hold very little charge. The early versions of these batteries were made in Japan and were essentially rebranded Eneloops but that is no longer the case. They are now made in China and are the absolute worst quality rechargeable batteries I have ever used. I believe the vast number of positive reviews were for the early version battery and do not account for the change in manufacturing that has taken place. Unfortunately I bought quite a few and did not catch how bad the quality was until after the warranty had expired. I wanted to share my experience so that others don't fall into the same trap. Best of luck if you decide to take the plunge!

That's a junk charger, and DOES NOT have to be used with these batteries. Any quality, individual channel charger is fine.

Correct. And the output power is slightly different.
