First deal please be easy on me.

Just found out that United.com is having a great deal from Washington DC to Hangzhou, China (IAD-PEK-HGH) for $473.46. Sample day I booked is outbound February 7, Inbound Feb 27. There are plenty of availability.

Visa to China is about $160.

Also a thought (just a thought): you COULD book a one-way ticket IAD-NRT-PVG for about $250, abandon the last leg to just visit NRT, for just $250, and find your way back to the US on another airline. I don't know if you will be blacklisted by the airline for abandon the last leg, YMMV.

Would you get your checked bag? Or if you plan to abandon you can't have checked bags?

They will check your face into the arm rest for free once they try to bump you from the flight.
