modem or modem router combo

391 63 December 29, 2017 at 11:44 AM
It appears my surfboard SB6141 is dying.
I've been on the phone with Netgear, spectrum, and ariris and it appear the modem hardware is failing.

My router is a Netgear R6100

Internet provider: Spectrum (formerly TWC)
Usage : Netflix and spectrum app

I'm torn I'm not sure if I should just get a new modem or just get a modem router combo?!?!

Usually I just get it at Costco but I'm really at a loss on what I should get?

Just get a modem and keep the router separate.

You can get the best experience with a separate router- with better hardware on both products.

Agreed, combo devices generally don't have great wifi performance/range either.

plus heat kills 2 devices means heat spread over 2 devices.
