I don't understand why Monopoly is a $40 title to begin with. $20 seems like a normal price to me.

Has anyone here played the Switch version before? Is it worth it? I have a 6 1/2 year old I'd be playing this with if I got it.

Not sure if this is the case with this game but i recently found out that target online prices are different than in store prices. Since the cartwheel offer is in store only, it may not be 50% off $40.

I have this for my son. It's pretty good, but keeping track of players and setting it up take some time and getting used to. The bad reviews are primarily due to a loading bug that made it take forever. The updates have cured that I believe.

I picked it up for $15 from Best Buy (GCU) back at the beginning of the month. The load times aren't as bad anymore, once the game is loaded, there is virtually no loading. For $15, I can't say (for the quality of the game) that I would call it a slickdeal, but I'm not crying over wasted money either. It's a monopoly game, with options (such as house rules), and saves the trouble of breaking out the actual board (you can save the game as well, and pick up at a later date, rather than leave the board on the table).

Played with the family over Christmas (fairly simple UI for people that don't play games). My biggest complaint, you can't pan to see the board when you need to. You can switch views, from side to top-down, but that doesn't necessarily help you when you are playing the "fast play" option and you choose if you want to travel 5, 6, or 11 spaces. Maybe by switching views you can see who owns the 5th property, but no way you'll see who owns the the 6th and 11th, it's a blind guess. I'm hoping they'll issue an update to fix it. If you're looking for the novelty of having another switch game that you can play with people not gaming inclined, I think $15-20 range is fine for this game.

I don't know why anyone plays monopoly anyway. It's tedious, boring and presents a fundamental flawed and inaccurate view of economics.
My guess is either nostalgia or just that lots of people aren't aware that there are hundreds of board games that have come out since the 1930s which are similar to Monopoly except that they're actually fun. Ironically, Monopoly has a near monopoly on economic games, and like most monopolies, their product sucks.

If you haven't played Catan, that's the classic "Monopoly but fun" game. Splendor and Jaipur are both good marketplace-type games. King of Tokyo is good if you like rolling dice and antagonizing the other players. I haven't played it myself, but I've even heard that the Monopoly card game is a better version of Monopoly than the actual game.

Unfortunately, none of those are available for Switch yet.

It's virtually sold out at every Target or not carried by some.

I just hooked up my Switch last night and noticed this was $20 in the eShop. I realize that's the downloadable version as opposed to a physical game you could resell. Not sure if that's helpful for anyone here.

picked up for $20, it's fun and you can share joy con and have multiple players so if you don't have multiple controllers you can still play, enjoy + happy new year!
