Does anyone hate Amazon now that they are collecting tax?

It started last year around this time but I have not bought a single item from Amazon this last year. I would like to send out a plea to slickdeals to either ban Amazon front page deals or somehow segregate them. I see this great deal until I realize it is only from Amazon. I refuse to support a company that forces me to pay sales tax that they are not legally obligated to collect. Amazon now has a presence in my state so I guess they would have to collect sales tax now but I still refuse to buy anything from them again. Anyone else feel the same?

If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

If they have a presence in your state, you gotta pay tax. It's just how it works Jr.

No. The taxes are used to pay for services. Education, roads, fire, police etc.

Even if Amazon is not legally obliged to collect, you are still responsible for paying the tax. It's the law. Sorry, suck it up buttercup.

Here is how I feel, SD is not going to pay you any mind and neither am I.
No matter what, taxes are taxes. Get over it.

It's called being adult, get over it and grow up. If you don't like it start your own country.

It has definitely happened before. I can't remember the story but something about tea.

If you are content paying taxes for whatever reason...then where is the love for jet.com, overstock, boxed, etc. All front page deals seem to be Amazon. Just like Costco I'm not interested in paying for membership fees. I happen to have a Sam's Club membership strictly for my convenience. Their prices aren't that great. I rarely see their deals either.

What is your solution. If Amazon does not collect taxes where should the money come from to pay for all of the roads, police and other services we receive from the government.

Just because they didn't collect taxes before doesn't mean that you didn't owe. Most states that collect sales tax require you to pay sale/use tax yourself for such purchases.

And yes, if Amazon has physical presence in your state, then as per your state's laws they would have to charge sales tax for you. A large corporation is probably not going to try cheat the system like you.

Very aware of it. Did you read OP's first post? Supposedly Amazon opened a physical location in that state and now OP is pissed that they're collecting sales tax.

Either way, sales or use tax is owed. If a retailer doesn't collect or collects less, then most states require the customer to pay use tax directly to the state.
