This deal seems to run quite often. Cabelas had the purest reel which is one step up for $35 a few months ago. Much better deal with a sealed drag system.

just my .02 but Pflueger makes some of the best in shore spinning reels under $150. The screw in main gear (you'll know what this is if you have used one before) is what makes these reels feel so rock solid and secure. I've used the cheapest Pflueger reels (Trion GX7, Trion, and President) for years with great reliability. Pfleuger is part of the giant Jarden monopoly in fishing but these reels are unique and special from any of their corporate cousins at this pricepoint. Can't recommend these reels enough, $33 for a president is a no brainer imo.

Sorry it was 39.99 but still worth it for the extra $7 for a sealed drag. It also feels like a tighter reel than the president.

Can you explain a sealed drag?

It's much better at keeping dirt and salt out of the internals of the reel. The drag on the pfleuger is also a weaker reel.

Got a new 10' rod for xmas, looking to get into surf casting. Any recommendations on a reel? Looking to catch good eats on in NC coast, like flounder, etc. Thanks!

Get a new Daiwa BG, best back for the buck, cant recommend these enough.

As for what size. 4500-5500 sized reel would be good with that rod. Id suggest trying to see them in person to determine what size is best for you.

Or if you have a larger budget, the Penn Slammer 3 is worth it.
