What's considered a good price per lb? Both for ground and whole bean?

This is a good price for Starbucks which ranges from 12-15 per lb for their in-store coffees. They are dark roasts, which I prefer, and I buy whole bean and grind the beans at home right before brewing. Makes a big difference. I picked up 1 regular Christmas and Espresso roast whole bean.

I don't see discount either. Fine print says "at participating stores". Bummer Frown

EDIT: looks like willt91099 is correct. It must be a holiday/Christmas blend.

I picked up these last year IIRC for around $6 after Christmas at their online store when it existed. $7.50 is pretty good, the Msrp of $14.99 is crazy high

Our stores sold out last week. Sucks there's no online store anymore for this deal.

Our local store had quite a few packages of the Christmas Blend varieties (regular, decaff, and espresso) still available. All holiday merchandise was discounted to 50% off.

My store showed having stock of the Christmas blend espresso roast. However when I got there they were actually OOS. She said to pick out whatever other I wanted and they would honor it. So I got two bags of Sumatra and they ground it for me. Wasn't sure how good the quatelan or the Italian roast would be so was a bit afraid to re it.

Cheapest you can get whole beans is probably Costco, $5/lb for Kirkland brand 2lb bag but some Costco will have a regional brand for same price like Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf 2lb $9.99. Cheapest local roaster near me is $9.99/lb, cheap local roasters are like $12-14 and "specialty" roasters are $20/lb or more depending on varietal. For Starbucks, you can get as low as $5/12 oz with grocery store coupon stacking but it's more commonly $7/12oz. Starbucks Christmas blend this year was pretty good, although these were probably all roasted in October or November so it's not so fresh these days. Grocery store coffee is even more suspect when it comes to freshness so if it's between Christmas blend and grocery store regular Starbucks blends, I'd go with Christmas.
