Will this power 2.5 " hdd without external power? It looks like its so wide it will cover the external power port on the drive and prevent you from adding external power

Answers from owners on Amazon are mixed: https://www.amazon.com/ask/questi...pmw_al_hza

However, it looks like the ones saying "You can't" are actually talking about a different model that has a separate power cord (USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter 2.5 3.5,Upgraded Version).

2.5" HDD should work, but not for 3.5" if no external power

Question, If I connect an old HDD to this device and then plug in the USB 3.0 to a laptop, will I able to view and access the files? Or is this only for transferring the files in the old HDD onto the laptop HDD/SDD?

There is a 18.99 one from same seller that has a powered one.

A 3.5" drive will likely need too much power. You may be able to view files but will likely get corruption if you try to transfer alot. You need to upgrade to the one with external power input

Sabrent branded one is rock solid reliable on every diff type of 2.5" drive ive tried, over 20 for sure. Even 15mm 5tb thick a$$ platter drives, no external power needed

Scared to try another even at half the cost ... but for $5 maybe just for a travel/work beater...

Bears repeating yet again. Everyone should have this. Get one so that you don't need to keep buying the free after rebate 2.5" usb cases from Newegg.
