It seems crazy that this same drive can be had for 150 out of a shucked enclosure.

This is a Pro version of the WD Red. My guess is that the 8TB Easystore External Drive has a non-Pro version, but I don't know. Can someone who has shucked that drive chime in here?

Yes, it's non-pro version in Easystore.

~$36/TB is not a bad deal for the WD Red Pro at this size. Not sure why the thumbs down. The tax I have to pay at NewEgg does not make it a great deal for me but w/o tax, decent deal on a 5yr warranted NAS drive (enterprise grade).

Yeah, what's with the TD? This is a good price for the Pro version and actually, NewEgg has no tax for me making me pissed I don't have any funds left now after xmas to get some and a NAS box to throw them into.

What's special about the pro version? My shucked red is a 7200 256mb cache

Your shucked is a 5400rpm 256MB cache drive. Pros are 7200rpm

How does this Red Pro compare to Deskstar NAS 8/10TB?
