Somewhat of a good find that's on a certified 5 out of 5 Stars rated airline, Hainan Airlines (according to Skytrax). You can find this fare on the 3 out 5 stars airline but rare for 5/5.
There's only two departure dates and two return dates available. There may be more at any given time so keep checking. This makes one stop, layover in Chongqing China for about 2.5 hours outbound and 7 hrs on the return flight.

Travel Availability:
Departs JFK: March 10, 13
Returns: March 16, 19

This can be booked on any online travel agency such as Expedia [expedia.com], Orbitz [orbitz.com], etc., including Hainan Airlines [hainanairlines.com] directly.

Not a good deal at all. China Southern Airline frequently have this route on sale for ~$300 (tax included)

i am pretty sure i mentioned this in the op already. hainan airlines is certified 5 out of 5 stars rated world's best airline while the others (who have lower fares at other times) do not have the same rating.

plus i'm not seeing the price you mentioned for china southern. got dates?
