Note that this isn't the latest DJI Mavic Pro Platinum, which has been upgraded primarily to run quieter and at lower RPMs with newer more efficient props as well.

The regular Pro is one of the older drones for DJI at over a year (they release very rapidly), so we may see production on the Pros end in favor of the Pro Platinum, and a newer unit announced at the upcoming CES to be released in Spring if we go by their previous track record of releases.

The 1st Generation Mavic Pro was released in October 2016. (basically last holiday season) I'm thinking about getting this one as it's about the best deal on the mavic pro right now, but the platinum does look interesting. Just trying to decide if it's worth the premium.

You are correct, but just curious, what exactly is it that you like in the platnum vs the pro? and what about the pro doesn't meet most users needs at this price? as is, the pro has great features and range and basically flies itself in certain modes, has arguably the best technology on the market at this price range...and, if sound is what you are looking for (which is what the platinum's boasts among a few other minimal items), check out this video below. (you can get the platinum right, $1100ish vs pro refurb $700 + $20 platinum mavic props)..? fly NOW, or wait for a deal on platinum, another 2-6 months? decisions.. Smilie

Yes, and next year there will be more features and even better technology on the next model, after the platinum. Depends what you're budget looks like and how much the new features make a difference to you Smilie

Its basically the exact same thing, they just put the next generation ESC's into the Pro (along with new props) and called it the Platinum.

As such, they will probably retire the Pro, the Platinum will take its place, and a new model will be announced above the Platinum.

That would likely mean a Platinum price drop and maybe see a few Pros on clearance.

I'd guess late March though, and if its not cold where you are, many may not want to wait that long.

Right. For me, platinum wasn't a significant enough upgrade over the pro (+ platinum props), which is one of the main factors why I went with the pro, when I made my purchase. (I picked up the pro with 2 extra batteries/3 total, New/Sealed for $899 recently on ebay from a different authorized seller, and love this thing) I'll upgrade to the next version after the platinum, if technology calls for it. Guess I'm lucky living in sunny southern Cali. We see the sun more often than not, lots of beaches, mountains, landscape etc to film/fly out here.

Happy hunting and flying!

Careful buying anything from this crooks. Their return policy is terrible. I got a broken osmo mobile and they won't refund my money although they says they will in email. They fixed this junk and sent it back to me. Fraud alert.

Low noise propellers can be bought and fitted onto regular Mavic Pro. The downside is new platinum props are actually weaker than the ones in Pro and some people retrofitted pro props onto platinum.
All in all, platinum vs pro is almost a tie (especially when pro can be had for 7 latge bills) except battery performance in platinum which offers around 4 minutes extra fly time.
Also, the difference between old and new props is 3db. Whether that is negligible or not is upto each person, to me it is negligible.

Don't buy, I just sent mine back a week ago for defect. I owned one previously when they first came out and had no problems with it. Sold it and decided to get another one later. I didn't even get to fly the new one. Gimbal overload error, bad deal right out of the box. I was just informed multiple cases of crashes from distributor where I purchased. DJI is constantly doing updates and it's absolutely annoying trust me.

It's basically a Mavic Pro chassis in a different color with 4K 60FPS, for more money. No, thanks.

I purchased one of these a few weeks ago when Ebay had 10% back in Ebay bucks. It works great and looks brand new.
