"Free upgrade" is misleading.

You use whatever key and at the time of the activation, you get whatever the current product is . It's not an "upgrade" either when the new year happens and it's 2019 and you're system matches the 2019 software. For example Lightroom or other software that had versions where you had to upgrade and pay a price.. that's not how ESET is, you don't activate a "2017" product and get the 2017 version of ESET, you get whatever the latest version is.

The actual box itself (you can see for yourself) doesn't specify a date either (NOD32 Version 2017 doesn't exist on the box) thus whenever you buy an ESET key, it's good for that particular product ie NOD32 and for however long you're buying it for (1yr, 2yr), the actual date the key was made rather it be last year or this is completely irrelevant.

It's not the same as for example Office where you have versions (if you dont subscribe) and in order to get the next version, you have to pay an upgrade fee. That doesn't exist with ESET nor most Antivirus software companies.

So this actually would be 2018 version? Good to get?

My point being is that there is not really a 2018 or 2017 version of software that you get when you activate the product, it'll give you the latest version no matter what. In fact you cannot get the older version off their main download page.

Just trying to educate people that you can get a "2017" ESET product regardless of if it mentions "free upgrade" or not, it's all the same. That way if you find a good price elsewhere, at a later date, and it doesn't mention free upgrade, you're still good to go because when you download the product, it'll be whatever the latest version is no matter what and your key will work.

So can someone tell me why one would choose the regular Antivirus over Internet Security?

You don't know what you are talking about in terms of ESET. You need to download the latest version on their website and then activate it with the code with your purchase. I don't agree with you that OP is misleading others.

Because it's 5 bucks more or some might feel NOD32 is good enough for them.

Does anybody know
Since this is a 3 PC thing, can I use a code for one year and then when it ends, would I be able to use another code to extend it?

No, once you activated the code, the time started ticking for all 3 licenses.
