What happened to all the rebates? Where are they?

Looking back on my 2015/2016 logs of rebates, I used to do 8-10 a month at NewEgg and probably at least 15 a month including all stores. Now if I do 1 a month, I'm lucky.

I remember the Sunday mornings waking up before 7am in hopes of catching a FAR item at Frys. Sometimes I actually got some before they went OOS or stopped shipping and changed to in-store only.

Newegg had FAR items all the time. I had boxes of free stuff from Newegg. Now there are crickets where good FAR items used to be. I know they changed owners and Frys started charging shipping and Tiger pretty much went away but I sure do miss the deals.

I have 200.00 in Newegg gift cards that I purchased through Groupon last year and I can't find a thing to buy. I used to buy from them all the time. Even with Ebay and all the 10% Ebay Bucks deals, and 15 off 75.00, I can no longer find things even on Ebay.

There used to be so many deals on Slickdeals, and I admit around the holidays last year there were some great deals, but if it's not around Black Friday and Christmas, it's pretty dead around here with the every now and then ok deal or if you're lurking at just the right time, you might find a great deal, but that is very rare.

I find myself sometimes not even checking in here anymore.

I got paid for a couple of rebates yesterday. That leaves me with less than 10 outstanding and when those are paid for, I'll be all caught up. That's unusual for me. It looks almost like the end of rebates except for the random one here and there and no FARs unless it's a refurb piece of junk or a small cable or some other item with 1 star reviews to get rid of the item.

It seems most deals these days are smaller deals and mostly from Amazon, Walmart or Target and maybe Best Buy and a lot of the Walmart and Target are Brickseek deals. I finally had to remove brickseek from my alerts. I was getting so many.

I agree their are a lot less FAR deals the last year or so, though NEWEGG has been picking it up a bit the last few months. I think whats happened is the SD effect! People like us are doing a much better job of filing for rebates. People in general have become smarter consumers. 10 or 15 years ago before PCs and Laptops and home printers and smart phones and of course the Internet became ubiquitous, when a company offered a rebate the rate of return was probably 60 or 70%. I'll bet today its in the high 80's or low 90s. If company's are losing money, you can be sure they will cease whatever is not working very quickly.

way too many fraudulent rebate companies were hurting the retailers reputation - Fry's was a prime example - never again will I shop at Fry's - ultimately the retailer is responsible for the terrible theft so many 3rd party rebate companies committed to the retailer's customers.

I just called on my last Newegg rebate. It was approved 10-5-17 but I never got the card. They now tell me it is marked as being sent. Wow, over 3 months after being approved. It seems there near the end of 2017, I've had to call on about 6 Neweggs to remind them I hadn't received before they would process the card. If not, they probably would have never been sent out.

Anyway, that's my last outstanding Newegg rebate that I'm waiting on.

Only have a couple more for Frys and then caught up with all rebates.

Now I have all the Forever stamps with no rebates to mail in.

Wasn't he taking bribes to post deals? And then paying friends to upvote? Faaaark that.

On average, shills get offer of $5 per deal post. How's he able to afford to pay his friends for 100 thumbs up? The math doesn't add up. Think for yourself for a change.

I don't know why you're being insulting. The average shill wasn't TDMVP. Get real, not even comparable. The fact you're all fawning over the loss proves that. My understanding from what I've read(I wasn't here when he was a thing) is that a significant number of his posts were very popular, possibly front page material. You're expecting me to believe a $5 fee is all it takes to get something to the front page? For something that was never going to get there on its own merit? I'm no Einstein but that sounds farking stupid.

I'm wondering too if the lack of good deals these days is also because of a lot of B&M stores and online places have gone out of business or on their way out....Sears, Radioshack, Circuit City, Sports Authority, Drugstore.com, CompUSA, TigerDirect, Toys R Us, etc. Frys, you need to live near a store to get an ok deal. They've practically stopped shipping. Staples deals are non-existent these days.

It seems anymore that all mediocre (and most are just ok deals) deals that pop up these days are Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy with the occasional Newegg or Ebay thrown in.

At least TDMVP kept this place hopping and active. I really don't care what goes on behind the scenes if someone is helping others find good deals. He was an asset here.

Try2Win, you may be right. My poor rebate excel sheet has one rebate for 2018 on it and here it is February already. Wow.

Well you left out Target, that shows how little impact they have. Staples is ending their rebate programs. And NE seems to be having finance problems under new management. WM is mostly B&M deals. So it comes down to BB & AMZN. Unless you like shipments from China, then we can also include the penny items from SD partners. See how it's drying up.

I have pretty much thrown in the towel for rebates. Hardly worth even looking. So sad. I did my first rebate in 1996 from CompUSA. Whole bunch of free crap from Memorex. Since then I have done thousands of rebates giving tons of free stuff. Rite Aid, Sears, Frys, Tiger Direct, Staples, Home Depot, Pep Boys and etc. All gone now. What's left? A handful of Newegg rebates that are hardly worth the effort?

I am glad to say that I only lost ONE rebate out of all of those rebates. $20 for an internal PC modem. The company went out of business. No way to contact and no way to follow up. I did have many other close calls but they all paid. Even had a supervisor from one of the rebate fulfillment houses send me $5 cash from his wallet to get me to stop calling and bugging him about the rebate the manufacturer refused to pay.
