2017 Samsung TV's Series model 6290 - Enable Blu-tooth

1,308 221 January 6, 2018 at 02:18 PM
Late last year and continuing into the new year Samsung released the budget 4K TV 6290 model line in various sizes including a 55" curved model. RATINGS.com found very little difference in performance between this and the 6300 line which is significantly more expensive. The obvious difference was that the 6300 line added a limited button Smart remote with voice search and enabled Blu-tooth function. Well buried in the Service Menu are options to enable Blu-tooth and Smart remote function for the 6290! For sake of brevity I cut and pasted a post I made over on the deals side on how to enable this function.

If you have this series TV and have made custom calibrations setting changes from the factory default ( I used the RATINGS.com recommendations) you might want to write those down on a piece of paper before entering the service menu. In my case it looks like some of my setting from the Expert Picture menu defaulted back to factory just by entering the Service menu. Do not make any other changes in the service menu as you could conceivably brick your TV.

..................................................................................

I was able to unlock the Blu-tooth in the Service menu for my 40MU6290 model (40")

The RTINGS.com instructions are below. Although they failed to mention that the features you need to turn on are under the MRT and Eng. sub-menus. The only Blu-tooth equipment I have is a Speaker I use to enhance the music output from my phone. After Service menu changes I entered the standard Settings menu with the remote.... Settings > Sounds...I was able to pair my Speaker with the Blu-tooth Speaker option and it did output to the Speaker. Although I do not have a Blu-tooth keyboard that option on the TV is enabled and TV does perform a search.

It looks like the Smart Remote with voice function can be picked up for $25 or there about on eBay and probably other sources. Very cheap method of getting basically the 6300 model on the cheap. RATINGS.com has a review up from Dec. 25th on the 6290 model and found little difference between the the 6290 and the 6300. I wouldn't be surprised if the 6300 uses the same AU Optronics Panel as well.

RATINGS.com

"Although unavailable by default, Bluetooth support can be enabled by using the TV's service menu. You can enter the service menu by turning the TV off, then pressing one at a time Mute-1-8-2-Power on the basic remote. In the service menu, setting (BT Support -> ON, Voice Recognition -> ON, Samsung Smart Control -> ON, BT_AUDIO_ON_OFF -> ON) allows the MU6290 to work with the Samsung smart remote included with other Samsung TVs, including the voice control feature, and allows the TV to be used with Bluetooth audio products like Bluetooth headphones"

Edit. I.found instructions on another site yesterday which I can not now find. Those instructions mentioned that after you turn on Bluetooth in the service menu exit out and turn the TV off and wait a minute then turn the TV back on and it should be functional I did follow those instructions.

When you get ready to enter into the menu, make sure you have kept your TV off for one minute or more, then press slowly, "Mute-1-8-2-Power" and then wait for it to boot up (you know you did it right if you see the samsung smart tv logo come up when the tv turns on, if not, wait a entire minute or more and try again), after you see the blue menu appear, it should show option, control, debug, etc, hit option -> go down to MRT option -> the 2nd row at the top in the middle, you will see BT Support, hit that then use the right arrow button to turn on -> hit return on your remote, go to engineer option -> then turn on BT_AUDIO_ON_OFF -> switch to on. Thats the only two that I did so i could hook up a BT speaker or whatever else BT i may need. I didnt do the Voice recognition or the smart remote since I have no desire for those. Hope this helps

Off for one minute and slowly I think were the key elements I was screwing up. THANKS and REP++

Does anyone know if there is a full list of what these service options mean? I saw I could set the screen to 8K and 3D laugh out loud

Your very welcome! =) When i first tried the instructions above from the OP, it didnt work and so I had to figure it out on my own since those instructions were way off. I saw those settings but was afraid to try it, I thought it would brick my TV or something lol.

I successfully used this to add BlueTooth but found that the speaker selection reverted to TV after the TV was power cycled.

Is there another setting that will allow a BT speaker to stay selected after a power cycle so I can use a BT soundbar?

Thanks.

I was able to complete your instructions, but the TV still is not detecting my BT headphones. Is there anything else that needs to be done?
