Because single-piece cast iron skillets will literally last your lifetime if you don't abuse them, unlike anything out there that's constructed in such a way that it has a separate insulated handle?

Works great for stashing a hot pipe on the go.

That actually would defeat the purpose. If you do that, you will then have a 450 degree hot handle cover and need to use a towel to cover the hot handle cover to take it out of the oven.

Thought this would be useful, but it's just more convenient to use a glove/towel, especially when migrating meals to the oven.

It's a pain to push on and pull off.

Of course my skillet and this handle cover(red-$5) were delivered yesterday. Thanks SD for the buyers remorse on the handle cover.

My assumption is that you can leave it on and throw it in the oven so long as you''re not going above 450 degree temps.
