16gb DDR4...says in the item description it's 8gb on board + 8gb DDR4. So that's 2x8gb DDR4. Is there room to upgrade this more or would you have to replace the 8gb DDR4 for a 16gb?

No clarification if this is an IPS screen..doesn't look like it...

7200 RPM HDD though...noting compared to an SSD, but it would not be to expensive to add an SSD on top of a decent HDD.

I'm holding out longer for a cheaper deal, but this seems like a good price for a gtx1060 laptop.

Good deal, but for those looking for a budget option, Certified Refurbished Dell Inspirons 7577s are available for $765 here [dell.com]

You can get it down to near 530 after 15Inspiron, Raise, rebate website, and Dell Outlet referral code.

Don't mean to thread hijack, but I almost got this ASUS ROG without looking at other options

Use code 15Inspiron for 15% off.
Generate a 5% off code for yourself (two emails) at refer.delloutlet.com
Buy a $500 Dell gift card for $460-470 at Raise.com
Use a popular web rebate site for 8% off.
Hit up customer support after the order's shipped and tell them you're considering returning it for another 10% off.

For what it is, seems like a decent price. It's not the current generation though. I'm assuming this model has the internal m.2 header that all the GL502VMs have. You can probably replace the spinning HD with the 512GB m.2 NVMe drive from this deal and have a good gaming system.

It's a definite value judgement to make. The Kaby Lake (i7-7700-HQ) equipped Acer Predator Helios is $1,000, has a 256GB SSD but weighs an extra pound. The Kaby Lake version of the i7 is at 2.8GHz versus 2.6 GHz for this i7-6700-HQ version.

Up to 24GB of DDR4
ROG Strix GL502 accepts up to 24GB of DDR4 RAM (16GB installed), the latest standard in memory. Benefit from the improved speed, capacity and lower power consumption of the newest generation to really boost your gaming experience.

Beautiful Wide-view Panel
ROG Strix GL502 utilizes a 15.6" panel with super-fast wide-view panel to give you wide 160deg. viewing angles so there's no color shift even when you're viewing it from extreme positions.

Pretty sure this line IPS. How does that quote suggest TN? Wide view like an IPS.
