Now $154 nine hours after this was posted. The famous Amazon slow drop in price is occurring until a few of us buy it and it shoots back up.

How is this quality wise compared to polar express set?

Same power pack, same controller, same track. Both have metal locomotives and plastic cars. I would venture to guess the locomotives are technically the same with a different wrapper and share the same motor and internal electronics for cost saving measures. That is assuming you are talking about the LionChief Polar Express with also has the bluetooth. The older FlyerChief version will be different.

The locomotive is not as high quality. But still a great price on a great set. And your last statement is slightly incorrect. The FlyerChief is for the American Flyer S scale -- totally different gauge and set.

The older versions of this set are the pure Lionchief without Bluetooth and the one without any handheld remote. Instead, it had the CW-80 transformer.
