As for now Beijing is 21 AQI, NYC is 53, LA is 38
It gets very bad sometimes in the winter, but it's far from a hell hole. Just saying,
Especially when it comes to April and May, 80% of the days will be good or above good. You definitely need some luck to have your whole trip crystal clear, but soak in the smog for all your trip is unlikely.

If traveling alone in China, or with a gullible friend, be aware of various potential scams. Very few English speaking people, and you're best off if the English-speaking person is clearly, immediately trying to sell you something. If it's just someone who is "excited to talk to an English-speaking person and test their own English they've been learning", you are about to be scammed.

Tea ceremonies? Often scams... art? Yep...

China is incredible but just be smart about where you go and what you do. If you go to any of the traditional sites, don't let an English person convince you that they will give you a personal tour.

I plugged in a few dates and it looks like the $439 price is in fact from MCO (Orlando) and not ORD (Chicago) although the prices in Chicago were only $30-$40 more.

Yeah no doubt. I says it's a 17h 20m duration time. What !?! That's crazy amount of fly time!

China is amazing. No one can ever get lost there. We said we would do it here. We couldn't. They did. They are the future.
