Outdoor Research Womens Aria 650 Fill Down Hoody Jacket - $50 @ TJMaxx
Thanks for the post, but unless I have misread the specs, this is not a 650 down fill product. The description is as follows:
product description
quilted, compressible, lightweight, breathable, handwarmer pockets, standard fit
hits at hip
mid-weight
drawstring hood, zip front closure
polyester, fill: goose down/down clusters/feather
imported
machine wash
style #:1000242437

I clicked to see the weight of the down fill and was disappointed to see it was a down/feather blend. Unfortunately, the proportions are not given, nor is the fill power. This appears to be a cheaply made garment stuffed with feathers and a sprinkling of down.

per amazon and several other sites its 650 fill down. Mix that i could find is 80% goose down/10% feather which is quite typical of down jackets to have a mix. OR IMO is a very reputable but underrated brand.

The Youtube jacket is a different jacket. On REI it is discontinued, and mentions 650 down fill with no mention of a blend. Amazon says 80/20 with the 80 being 650 down. There is no good reason to put feathers into a down jacket except for cheap fill. Feathers are vastly inferior to down. When a garment is described as 650 down, that is what I expect to find as insulation. Yes, down/feather blends are quite common, but only because they retain the allure of down, making them salable, but not mitigating the inferior quality of the feathers. I have learned this the hard way, by buying blends in the past. Surely some people will be happy with these. My point, however, was that the title stated these are 650 down filled jackets. Had it said down/feather blend, I would not have bothered to click.

Great brand--I have a ton of Outdoor Research jackets and they're great. Fifty bucks for a down jacket is a good price, especially one with a hood.
