The outlet cover wall plate requires no wiring or batteries and it has a built-in light sensor that automatically turns it on/off.

I'm not sure I would call $15-$19 "a little more" expensive than $2. Also, other than the price and a nicer looking website, not sure that there's a reason to think the quality is any different.

they have to metal contacts on the sides that slide over and touch the original outlet live and neutral, its basically a 110v plug in night light with light sensor. it will work with any standard outlet.

I know these are dirt cheap in this post, but if anyone wants a huge selection of these types of things (including lots of options like different colors and different types of outlets like round, decor or GFCI) then check out www.snappower.com

They are a little more expensive then the one in this post, but I would imagine the quality is much much better. Just a piece of mind when dealing with a product thats touching a raw power source.

Not to sound stupid but if there's no wiring and no batteries how does it work? If it's got exposed contactors it's a code violation.

I have this. Do not expect much light to see in a hallway or anything. Best thing is it does not take up an outlet.

Would this be too bright as a nightlight in a dark bathroom? Don't want to miss the toilet, also don't want to blind myself.

When you're talking about something this cheap, a few dollars can absolutely be called "a little more expensive". We're not talking hundreds of dollars for a TV or something...although this is SlickDeals, so... *shrug*

With regards to the company, SnapPower is the company that created the design of this item. They incorporated in 2012 and filed a US patent for the design in May of 2012. I mentioned quality because when dealing with a direct power tap (which these use), you want something that is safety certified, especially in the US. The snappower covers I liked is ETL certified in the USA while this posting doesn't list any certifications for the product. More of a piece of mind then anything.
