I originally bought this and returned it. My tanks are further than 50ft from the drain. I also did not like having to treat the chlorine water (even though I think Prime is a pretty good product). This is how I clean my 5 aquariums:

1. I use a large 20+ gallon rubbermaid container and siphon the dirty water into the container located at the aquarium. If you are using sponge filters, you can also clean them with the dirty water you just siphoned.
2. I have 2 small pumps and hosing (like what is on the python, 100ft length). I bought both from amazon.
3. Once I have the dirty water in the rubbermaid container, I turn on the pump in the container and it pumps the old water to the drain. Works real quick.
4. While the old water is being pumped out, the second pump is in another rubbermaid container with RODI water and it pumps the clean water back into the aquarium. By using the RODI water I don't have to deal with chlorine and other minerals in tap water. Since using the RODI water, I have had a lot of success with healthy fish ... I probably just jinxed myself Frown

Hope this helps someone.

Just getting into the hobby? Might as well get this now cause before you know it you'll be scouring the net for cheap tanks, moving furniture to accommodate racking systems, and wondering if your floor can support the weight of an 800 gallon system.. Welcome to the hobby!

I have had no problem with putting water from the tap in my tank and treating the whole tank.

A great price for the Python (which is the best on the market). I still prefer to build my own to save a few bucks.

Just got a 7.5 gallon aquarium... Very new to this. Do I need this? I bought the master test kit and I have a gravel cleaner so I'm assuming I should be good right?

No. You need this for bigger tanks.

For 7.5 gallon, I would buy a manual cleaner which reatails for $5.
