Does seem like a good price, and no tax for some depending which state you're in. I've never seen this exact model in person, yet according to Samsung website it has the Quantum Dot display, similar to last years KS8000 series. The Samsung website price is currently $1199 for this model when I'm signed in.

Sorry guys, I was signed in under employee savings account for the 1199. You can check if your company is eligible here by submitting info at middle of the page about half way down...

I would buy from buydig on ebay though for 989 and no tax!

Not really.

MicroLED displays may end up being more of a direct competitor to OLEDs. An Emissive Quantum Phosphor display would also likely surpass OLED but we're still years out from those.

its completely not oled at all, its a regular LCD panel but it has "Quantum Dots" which basically glow really bright when struck by the backlight. This makes the colors very vibrant and bright but it won't match the black levels of an OLED as it still has a backlight.

Samsung is just trying to confuse people with the QLED name and make them think they are getting an oled.

It is a gorgeous tv though, arguably 2nd best display behind OLED.

Cheers for pointing this out because it just showed me as a fairly new expat in usa that I recently have gone nuts over better prices than back in Oz and bought some fairly big bits of house wares... (different plugs voltage here) but without minimal critical due diligence....
I feel pretty silly but it's okay. It's good for the soul to be humbled back into my regular scheduled reality!
Gods of Asgard I just bought the q7f 65 thinking without actually fact checking that I was not getting an LCD. Hmm. So smart but so dumb.. Haha,!!!
But it is a wonderful picture honestly. It'll do for now. And it's still MUCH cheaper than in Oz. So how much difference can there be between this and the q7f. Because I do kinda need another TV...

Depends on what you are looking for. I bought a Sony and found it to be darker and it gave me a little motion sickness (and that never happens for me) so I returned it. Net net is you should find a store that has regular cable or satellite channels on both and look at a few diff types of programming to make your decision.
