I'd say your son would likely appreciate a budget gaming laptop like I am looking for. Something with a cheap GPU (GTX 940 or above, MX150, or even a newer 1050 or 1050ti) would likely be more valuable to him then an i7 8th gen processor. Like I said before, I'd rather an i5 8th gen processor, with a cheap GPU and an SSD for a similar price as to this. By the time your son wants to explore more and better games, this laptop won't perform, but even a cheap GPU will allow him to play a good amount of games for some years.

Unfortunately it does only have one memory slot. Along with not having an SSD or a cheap dedicated GPU keeps me away from this deal. But I'm sure others will still find 8gb of Ram as useful for a long time. An i7 8th gen is tempting but I'd rather settle for an i5 + a GPU and SSD for a similar price.

Is it just me or is this an insanely great deal? Ok maybe you have to spend 100-150 on a replacement ssd, but still...

"Stocked with up to 128 GB PCIe SSD + 1 TB SATA HDD hybrid storage" is this true?

update: online chat agents says this model only ships with 1tb hd and max ram is 8 gb, but has open bay for ssd

"Up to 8gb ram" makes me cautious. Might need more in a year.

Uuuuuugh. Been hoping to find something around this point for $600 or less out the door (meaning lower price tag or from a rare site that doesn't charge tax in this state). I'm on the fence on this one.

The 8th Gen U series chips are quad core now. The first u series chips I ever considered buying.. if this had an SSD, even a sata SSD, I would get this but not with a HDD..

I am needing a laptop for my 10 year old to play Minecraft mainly on. He has a really old one now that barely works but I am pretty laptop stat overwhelmed and clueless as to what is good in the 6-700 range. Is this a good option or are others better? Thank you in advance for your help.

That's the exact laptop that I have been eyeing. They also have the same specs in an Acer Swift 3 (more portable/premium build) for sometimes less than $100 more.

That Acer Aspire is a budget quality build with a not so great screen and has never been lower than $600 for months. I've been tempted to buy it, but I'm being patient in holding off for a good deal.

The HP Ryzen would be much better for that purpose for the same price
