how do I format the 5400 rpm HD after switch my laptop to SSD without buying an external SATA case? I want to sell the 5400 rpm after upgrade to SSD.

Put the drive back in the machine, boot with a windows install usb drive, get to cmd prompt and use diskpart, remove the drive.
