This is a great camera for the average person, looking for quality, without having to be an expert photographer.

it's a little digital camera w/bunch or touches from old film (rangefinder type) cams Wave photo class would still be good ! Peace

Actually, you'd be hard pressed to convince the average person to buy this over a decent entry-level DSLR at half the price.

I cant believe they still using that abysmal lens on a 24Mpx sensor, soft like cotton when shoot close and wide open.

I have to agree. The average person won't be doing much manual shooting, nor will they appreciate the limitations of a prime lens over a zoom.

I sold my previous-gen Fuji X100S to a hipster girl who just wanted the look. I'd say there is still plenty of interest from the "average" consumer for this, else it would have been discontinued long ago if it wasn't selling.

august of last year I was assisting on a family shoot Wink and OP's camera was my toy LMAO anyway - B&W / no external ligt (I did not do post processing - so - would assume some sharpening was involved ?! Wave) I accidentally contributed about 30% to the package ! lens is much better than I expected ! Peace

when you imly "average" - ? - do you mean a person who is interested in photography ! or a person who wants to take pictures w/a disposable camera (some phones are in that category as well !) also - can't really compare it to DSLR Wave it's a neat purpose camera (travel, street, etc.) as I mentioned above Wink has some feel of the old rangefinder ! you can love it or hate it ! Peace

Got this late last year. Up close and wide open is the lens' weak spot, otherwise if you shoot at 2.5~2.8 aperture things things look pretty darn good.

I'm curious to hear about your definition of above average or expert.

Not a bad deal, but still waiting for an outright sale on this (previous x100 models saw a $200 discount at various points). I'd even prefer an extra $50 GC to the accessory packs I'll never use (plenty of cases, software, and memory cards already at home). I guess they're appealing to the non-photographer crowd?

You most certainly need a solid understanding of photography to fully utilize this camera. I'd say without a doubt it is not for people who just want to take better photos than a cell phone. You can do that with a much cheaper P&S.
