See list of Pros and Cons of adding this to a Dot, vs buying a stand alone Tap here

If you have an echo dot already, why not get this?

Echo dot $50. Battery $25.
Why not just buy an echo?
Yes it's portable, but how often are you really traveling with an echo??

Trying to wrap my head around this too. As best I can see, this helps you convert your Dot into a Tap. I do not own this product, but have owned an Echo, Dot, and Tap since their release. Assuming you were to get this and add to a Dot:

Pros:

Lower total cost than Tap
Dot supports Multi-Room Music through this, assuming plugged in using 3.5mm cable (Amazon/Echo/Alexa does not support MRM through bluetooth connections or Tap)
Dot supports Drop In calls
Dot supports US mobile calls
USB port to charge other devices from this

Cons:

Larger than Tap
Not 360 degree speakers
Dot not tuned for enclosure with speakers directly next to mic, will likely have issues with voice recognition if audio playing
2 manufacturers to contact if support is needed instead of all just Amazon

Unknown:

Battery life of this + Dot vs Tap (Tap is 1 day at most, even if not playing music for more than ~1 hr) - update per Docdent post that Tap battery life is superior. Other posters here validate the poor battery life of Mokcao, with reviews ranging from less than an hour to single digit hours.
Sound quality of this vs Tap - update per Docdent post that Mokcao sound volume is louder - unclear as to sound quality

Not sure what the point of a battery for it really is. Want echo for music? The dot sound quality is really bad. Echo also needs WiFi to work. So traveling with one doesn't make much sense. If it's for patio use, most patios have outlets.

Just confused as to the purpose is all.

The battery idea of it is stupid. But to just add more volume to the dot in my living room, works great.

I guess so. If someone already has a dot then for the added volume makes sense. But otherwise an echo is the smarter choice

The battery in these don't last very long. Maybe 45min- 1 hr in use or 3 hrs standby.

But why not just get a regular Bluetooth speaker to plug into the echo? Plus, then you could use the Bluetooth speaker for other things if you wanted (you could use this for other things as well, I suppose, but the form factor would be more awkward).

Or Amazon has 3 of the Taps (used) ranging in price from $60-$62 each
