If you haven't seen DM3, you should just for the villain introduction at the beginning.

I don't see a benefit to animated movies in 4k, it just seems silly to me

Despicable Me and 2 are one of the few 4K discs that have Dolby Vision support, that alone is worth picking up. Not sure about Minions.

As silly as playing Video games on a 4K TV, like Minecraft Smilie

The effect is even more dramatic with animation given that it's a clean, perfect 4K transfer. The movie is rendered at 4K with perfect color and contrast control.

I have DM3 in 4k digital but not these 3. I'll pick these up for the digital codes.... Gotta keep the toddler occupied.

There has not yet been an animated movie rendered in 4k. They are all upscaled. HDR could be a benefit with UHD.

I'm with you on this. Although I haven't watched any animated movies on 4K disc, I've always thought blu-ray did a bang up job with resolution/picture and audio. I suppose for the pickiest of videophiles & audiophiles, they justify the added cost of 4K by saying it's noticeably better, but I wouldn't bite unless its my favorite animated movie of all time. I've also come to realize you really can't waste your time arguing with those who run out collecting every last steelbook, 3D, and/or 4K movie released regardless of how much replay-ability value a film has (there are awful many below average films that have been released in these formats).

Exactly, and as said they aren't rendered in 4k, from what I've read it's a huge computational challenge to do so.
