I was so excited when my deal alert went off for this but I need the 4k+ =(

The Yi 4k doesn't allow any external audio. I own the GoPro Hero 5 and learned the hard way that all action cams have horrible audio without an external mic adapter. The GoPro's is proprietary and costs $50 just for the adapter and all the attachments are so expensive so I was going to switch to the Yi but only the 4k+ has an external mic adapter.

It might not be that important to you depending on what you're using the GoPro for but I was pretty disappointed that the first weekend of footage I took with our GoPro had completely inaudible audio.

**edit** I decided to buy the 4k anyways. I will buy the 4k+ later if it goes on sale. I can still sell my gopro on craigslist for like $250 and I figure with the extra $100 I can get an external audio recorder and sync the audio post processing like someone suggested below. It's worth it in my opinion to get out of the expensive GoPro accessory system and frustrations I've had with my Hero 5 black.

I've been pretty happy with the Yi 4k I got last year on Prime day. But I personally don't mind the poor audio. The only complaint I have is that the colors look a little muted sometimes.

Wow, that's a killer deal. Yeah, I was just hoping for any discount on the 4k+ and I would bite at this point. I'm just frustrated with my GoPro for so many reasons:
  • Horrible audio
  • $50 just for an adapter that's nearly as big as the camera to plug an external mic into.
  • Video files are named in the most ridiculous format which makes it difficult to find what clips you're looking for when importing for editing
  • Camera is only a year old and my battery doesn't even last 45 minutes when recording. The new off brand Chinese batteries I bought off Amazon for $15 work better than the original.
I am almost tempted to just buy the 4k for now while it's on sale and test it out but from reading the reviews it seems that even without the case the 4k still has below average audio.

I've been using this one for the last month and you can get some incredible footage. The + wasnt that important for me since I don't need audio recording (I used background music 99% of the time) the 4k 60 frames is not a deal braker for me and this one is considerably cheaper I used the difference in price to get a gimbal.

4k's case would work with 4K+ without a problem.

I got this when it first came out, even then at like $200 it was a deal compared to the NoPro, as one person mentioned the lack of external audio that was the only feature it was missing that I would have liked. Otherwise it was better in pretty much every aspect.

What I do is record my audio with a digital recorder (Zoom H2N) and put it together in post production, the quality is ultimately better than hooking up a mic to the camera directly but it takes more work and setup.

I had an H4N but I sold it a couple years ago before I ever got an action cam =(

Regretting it now.

Oh well, I went ahead and bought the 4k. I will get the 4k+ later if it goes on sale. I will start looking for an H4N or something on sale. I didn't like how big the H4N was though for on the go recording. Is the H2N very portable?

I bought the Yi 4k before the summer and purchased a 3rd party waterproof enclosure. For the price I am very happy with it.

Here are two sample videos.
