While most sugar alcohols are low calorie, erythritol has zero calories. Non-glycemic - Does not raise blood sugar – erythritol is considered suitable for people with diabetes because it does not raise plasma glucose or insulin levels

It also doesn't cause diarrhea like another poster mentioned. Not sure what you're trying to imply but here's the facts.

If you're thinking it will mess you up like malitol, it won't.

Sugar substitutes typically cause GI distress by being unabsorbed in the small bowel, and then metabolized by bacteria in the colon, which creates gas and as osmotic load (water follows causing diarrhea). This is also how they exert their prebiotic effect (not a typo, a prebiotic is a substance that affects the bowel flora by being metabolized by certain bacteria, thereby giving them an advantage over other species). Some studies have suggested that sucralose decreases concentrations of good bacterial species.

On the other hand, per Wikipedia, erythritol has 90% bioavailability with whatever absorbed excreted in the urine. So it will should cause less GI discomfort and have less of a prebiotic effect, both good things. I could theoretically see it causing polyuria (peeing too much) since it exerts an osmotic load, or that it could increase the rates of urinary tract infections, but it is probably negligible given the small quantities consumed (vs an SGLT2 inhibitor like Jardiance, for example).

I also do low to.no sugar. I bought erythritol a while ago, but you learn to live without sugar. Only used it for making ice cream, etc

Good deal op, about $2 cheaper than my last purchase. One of the best sugar alcohols, Etherytol doesn't contribute to gi issues like pretty much all others.

That is just a mix of Etherytol and oligosaccharides... I've never tried it, looks interesting, but expensive. I'm not familiar with oligosaccharides, though.

i just bought NOW Foods Erythritol,2.5-Pound for 12.23 2 days ago on amazon.

I might have to pick this one up also. Never used them before, I always used splenda. How does this compare to splenda?

Splenda contains allot of fillers, and is really only good (gi wise) in smaller doses, unlike Etherytol.
