It depends on what you need, the 8th gen processers are going to be much better future proofing for general work and light gaming and this laptop won't really be a work all day since I suspect the battery life is crap or game much of anything very well. It will outclass and laptop in that price with graphics card though. Any more of a graphics card is gonna start around 900-1250 for a 1050ti-1060

It is an Asus laptop with very little support. Tried to look for a firmware update or a mitigation plan for the side channel issues and cannot find one on their support site... Personally I don't think this is worth purchasing unless if you are using it for Linux and load the CPU microcode yourself.

Skylake, Kaby lake, and Coffee lake CPUs have taken ~8% hit on processing performance with Meltdown and Spectre patches and close to 21% on storage "system responsiveness." Something to keep in mind...

You can buy this, then wait 4 years later to upgrade to i7-7700hq for $60.

My wife purchased an ASUS with Harmon/Kardon audio last year. The computer runs fine but the audio sounds the same as any other laptop. I would not buy this based on the speaker quality, just a heads up.

Yes, I'm intrigued by this plan too, please elaborate ecigar13. First, tell us what you've been smoking.
