I'm not sure if this is the best thread for this or not, so apologies if I got it wrong, but damn, I was shopping for a GTX 1060 and it looks like they shot up ~$150 across the board fairly recently. Anyone know what happened?

Cryptomining (ethereum, zcash, etc.)

Bitcoin gpu mining ended a long time ago.

Unfortunately finding video cards is literally next to impossible now without paying a ridiculously huge premium.

Stock is completely depleted for 1070s everywhere and has been for a while.

Might be able to find 3gb 1060s for low 200s (with coupons, etc.).

Feel sorry for gamers who want to build a pc but c ant anymore.

I think the whole pc economy is price fixed, they're all probably in collusion. like the LCD screen debacle a few years ago. People have excuses for everything.

Most recent reason why everyone should be armed at all times:
Santa Fe, TX school shooting. 10 killed 10 wounded.
This was a gun free zone. The shooter didn't care. Gun free zones only hurt honest citizens. If someone was armed there could've been 1 less death.

It's ridiculous. These were going for sub $180 just 2 weeks ago! Give it a pause - it's bound to renormalize sooner or later.

In the case of any GPUs with 3+GB of DDR5 memory it absolutely is a supply/demand issue caused by cryptocurrency mining. This has been ongoing for a while now, and is mostly due to Ethereum (ETH) and the mania surrounding crypto currencies in general.

I didn't use a spoiler tag because you just seam to take them for granite. But don't worry old chap, I'm hear to help you. For all intensive purposes, your probably relying on spell check a bit to much. But who knows, maybe this post is a blessing in the skies for other people who make similar mistakes, or maybe it's just a mute point and all for not.

So looks like crypto continues to plummet in 2018 but gpu prices remain high. Any idea when this might turn around? Looking to pick up a 1070 or 1080 at a decent price now that ive got a 1440p monitor but its absolutely crazy right now.

I just didn't know if any of you might have an idea of when gpu prices might regulate or go back to MSRP from early 2017?

Finally, I love how these companies like Nvidia and AMD are saying they are dedicated to the gamers but you know they have to be loving this crazy demand right now. Do you see these company increasing supply to meet the demand thereby reducing price again?

Most of the cards come form outside companies, like EVGA Gigabyte MSI, etc... It's not Nvidia's fault. They just supply the blueprints, its up to others to make them as they see fit.

You also can't always just scale up supply easily. If their factories are already running at capacity they'd need to expand to additional factories/manufacturing centers and hire more people and then risk being over-extended later and having to close/fire people.

No end in sight. Cypto isn't really plummeting any more, it's pretty stable around the 400m cap. Mining is still profitable and ROI is around 6 months. It took me about 4 or 5 months to get a reasonable price for a card during the last price increase and I had to buy a damaged box item from Amazon Warehouse Deals. Nvidia may release Volta in April, so do you try to buy next dip or wait and get in a preorder on the 20 series?

Yea thats the question...i cant imagine what Volta prices will be but I know it wont be pretty. I heard that wont be until August though.

When Volta gets released that might be the time to grab the 10 series
