I bought this before. I returned it due to the screen quality. The build quality was nice, but the screen wasn't what I was hoping for. Bought a first gen surface book instead for around 700 which I like more. I don't do any crazy stuff. Basics and lots of pdf reading

Can you elaborate on the screen's problem/shortcoming.

And anyone else who bought this during Christmas; opinions?

After a lengthy laptop shopping exercise, I bought this in November when Costco had the same deal. I use it daily and have zero complaints and zero buyers remorse. Every feature works flawlessly including the fingerprint and Ink - the pen it comes with costs $49 by itself. It arrived less than 36 hrs. after ordering, used my Cco Visa and get 4 years warranty. It's an absolute steal at $599 period.

How's the cooling? The review [ultrabookreview.com] linked in the thread for last time this was on sale said that it gets kind of hot (especially in tablet mode, when the exhaust is right where your hand goes) and that the fan is quiet but runs constantly.

The linked review is very thorough and accurate. My daily usage and experience so far would classify it as a solid performer & great value. No cooling complaints in Nov, Dec & Jan on my lap - we'll see in May-Sept! When the fan runs, I think it's very quite, not silent. It has exceeded my expectations: Hundred(s) less than most of the comps, fast & 5 second boot up. Add in the unbeatable 4 year Costco warranty - it's all good and no risk.

How good is the build quality of this laptop?
Fell, hinges etc.
I bought Lenovo with same specs + 940mx for $100 more. For external gpu i would give $100 more. But if this one really works quiter with similar build quality I might return mine to Costco and buy this one.

Solid build quality. 3 months in and hinges are still solid with daily use. Works for me. The earlier linked review is spot on.

Has this ever been in the warehouse? I'd like to see it in person. I know you can always return it, but I'd like to avoid the hassle.
I sure like this price-point for what you get. I've had my eye on the HP Spectre x360 and Dell xps and they are certainly higher-end machines, but I can't bring myself to spend that much on the computer. Although I'd prefer those, in reality this Acer will probably suit me just fine. I don't game at all but I do typically have 15 to 25 tabs open at once.

The $100 discount is back through 1/28/2018. Hopefully I get the Costco Citi Visa rebate check before this deal ends.
I thought Costco/Citi mails rebates after February statement closes....

I'm too annoyed with my XPS 13 so I'm returning it and thinking what to pick up.
It's probably between this and the Lenovo Flex 14"
This one seems to have RAM soldered in.
Flex 14 I think has upgradable RAM.

Decisions....

Can I ask, why are you annoyed with your XPS 13? I was just thinking of getting one soon

Same. I am thinking of getting an XPS 13. the new one too with white interior and just place a sticker over the exterior gold casing. The battery life is just phenomenal and the weight is super light.

I do a lot of video-conferencing. The XPS camera location is just too awkward/weird. That's the primary reason.
Secondary things:
-There's probably something wrong with mine, cause mics would randomly drop 20% of my words.
-Keyboard is strange. After a month I'm still messing up while typing just as much as on the first day.
-I got one with QHD+ and it's a pain to remote desktop to my work pc, which is FHD.

Otherwise it's okay, but I don't feel like it's worth the $$$.
