Just to confirm, this is a 4 pin fan which can be speed controlled by many motherboards? Correct?

Yes. It also comes with a molex to 4 pin and mounting screws.

Why use PWM fans for the rig? Assuming you daisy chained a bunch of fans to cool off the cards? At which point, i'd probably pick up some Arctic fans or something else at a lower price.

I've got 3 of these for FAR from Fry's. I'd recommend to wait for the next Fry's sale.

Grabbed two with a PWM splitter to replace the CM fan on my Hyper 212 Evo. The OEM fan starts making a terrible rattling noise when it gets up to speed.

Thanks OP.

Funny... I just had to replace my CPU fan too... I think it was the same cooler... I used an Antec 120mm TriCool fan and just put it on the lowest setting which works well enough. I didn't have a 4 pin fan at the time.

Oh, it makes that noise right from the factory. All of them do it, but it only happens when the fan gets to 100% speed and it's only the PWM fans on the Hyper 212. I have a bunch of 3-pin 120mm fans from Cooler Master and even at 100% RPM, they're whisper quiet. I thought it was a wire hitting the fan blade, but I'm pretty good at cable management and it makes zero noise at idle.
