MicroCenter has the Flir One Personal Thermal Imager camera on sale for $129.99, in-store only, limit one per household. This appears to be the Gen 3 model. In poking around, it looks like these are running right about $200 normally. My local store also has open-box/complete options for $104, if that is desirable for you.

It looks like the Gen 3 has a lower resolution than the Gen 2, which has people up in arms, however this price might help alleviate concerns folks may have. Apparently the Gen 3 Pro version has higher resolution but runs around $400. This should be perfectly capable for DIY projects around the house.

UPDATE -- Thanks to johnneyi for his link (posted below) to the Flir PRO model for 50% off ($200 sale price vs $400 regular price), also at MicroCenter, in-store only. OOS at my location (Columbus) but may be available at locations near you.

Ive been ressearching it since early AM. Was gonna post but wanted to make sure it was decent 1st lol

Tempted — if it will work well for generating wifi heatmaps. On ipad pro that would be huge for me

That is a common use, yes. And why I will be grabbing one.

In for one, thanks OP. I recommend going to the FLIR website, the reviews show good uses for the camera and even a way to mount it to an otter box case.

Yes, but not a straight forward as you might think. My previous gen model has quite a big delay and small field of view. Also only visualizes temperature difference so will need a BIG temp difference between the outside and inside for it to be very useful. Large things like missing insulation in a exterior wall bay are useful. Also has helped me a very little bit in finding water leaks but pretty poor at it compared to other more expensive Flir products.

I had a flir one (gen 2) but only used it a handful of times. Cool idea but couldn't really find any use for it so ended up selling it on ebay. I was trying to find leaks in my house and it pointed out the obvious cold spots (AC vents/windows/doors). Would be interested in hearing what others are using it for and doing with it.

It prob cant lol

Was hoping since Ap's and wifi radios / pc's / laptops generate heat

And RF works thru walls...

So was hoping maybe it could show me signal degradation or obstructions from the AP location via heat map. But i guess it wont be ideal

The really good RF scanners are much more pricey than this and the apps ive used that just use your laptop wifi radio have been hit or miss

It will show you infrared heat ...not any radio signals.

Gen2 was better. Gen3 has a lower resolution sensor.
