OK, RAM prices have sky rocketed... and it's hurt all of us. I have been trying to get some DDR4 ram for a while... and got suckered into the 2666 Crucial ram that never shipped for 139.99 or so...

Anyway, enter newegg and Geil...

GeIL EVO POTENZA 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model GPR416GB3000C15ADC

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Pr...gnorebbr=1

Use Code -- USD $25 off w/ promo code EMCPEEV78, ends 1/22 to get the price down $25.

I know it's probably not a slickdeal, but will probably help someone out. I'm running this ram in my 1800x build I just got up and running and it seems to be doing just fine.

Not a terrible deal given that it's 3000 MHz and CAS 15. Any other RAM that takes that code?

careful following op's advice.

ryzen 5's are more compatible with cas.14 ram
if you read comments on this cas.15 part
many complain of ryzen problems.

R5 and R7 are made from the same die, any idea why CAS 15+ would only affect R5?

nope, all i knew is i just helped friends buy amd rigs, and this was an issue.
we went with asrock 370 mobos, ryzen 5's and 2x8gb 3200 ram which will
turbo at 2666 and likely OC at 2966.

Anyone notice how RAM more than doubled in price in the last 2 years. More price fixing? Class action in 5 years?

only 3 makers left after the 4th went bankrupt - and demand keeps increasing.
it takes billions to bring any new ddr4 3xxx speed chip maker online.
at least the slower nand and hdd prices came down significantly.

I don't buy that. If there is a supply shortage, and one company goes bankrupt, you buy their machines and factory and ramp up production.

The environment that would create a 2-3x increase in RAM prices is not a competitive and free market. It's one of all kinds of shady under the table agreements between companies to keep prices up.

4th guy could not keep up with how rapidly speed demand kept increasing,
so old equipment was worthless to the remaining 3 players,
but you are welcome to your collusion theory laugh out loud

You do realize that we've had class actions for price fixing on every major computer component over the last few years right. Hard Drives, LCD panels, DVD drives, Laptop batteries etc.

Secondly, when you move to a new manufacturing process, less than half of the equipment changes. The machines that actually make the RAM chips. The other machines like PCB pick and pluck machines and machines that make the PCB boards themselves, die casting machines for the RAM heatsinks for gaming type RAM all this remains more or less the same.
