I think comptai is just a cirtification 4 money scam as they opposed the right to repair bill. And have questions like how many devices can you daisy chain with firewire. If an employer wants it then who cares maybe I'm full of it just my two cents

Yeah it's a scam. But some employers like to see it.

They still have that crap? It's no different than Cisco certs being stuck on their token ring technology. Glad mine never expires even though my employer doesn't care about certs.

Most certifications not good for a job but only for a salary difference of questionable value since employers like to see experience instead. Training along with job placement assistance is what you want. If you put in the time, some employers just want a consistent level of training or meet Federal regulations, such as for security across staff. Now they want a degree too. Just spend your time wisely and pick the right career in IT.

Funny all the negativity. I just got done interviewing people for a desktop position at my company and A+ was a prerequisite to even get the interview. So it is necessary some places.

How strict are they about this, could I just borrow an academic account from someone and buy vouchers in my own name?

Or do they actually tie each account to a specific individual to prevent this?

Lol 20 years of tech repair and i sure as hell know more than any A+ idiot. One question on the test was about dot matrix printers. WTF! useless test besides to find out if your not hiring a complete idiot.

Useless entry level certification, until you need it to get past a prescreen filter or as a prereq for a raise. At $97, just get it, if you know your stuff a weekend of quick review to go over the arcane stuff will be good enough. I took A+ and Security+ years ago (when they were still good for life, before they got greedy) and while I'm not sure if they helped, there were a couple of occasions where not having some proof of training/education would have hurt.

PS I got out of the IT field but some of the knowledge comes in handy, I helped an office troubleshoot their dot matrix printer a couple months ago.
