So it's not free after all. The good thing about this, the rebate is valid for a week and there's always a chance newegg release a coupon or lower the price.

Although by then the item might have gone out of stock too

Especially since the rebate form says you can buy 5 per customer. I'm still on the fence if it's worth buying 1 set of batteries for $7.49 AR. There are so few reviews on Newegg's site.

One assumption a person can generally make is if you don't buy Newegg rebate deals on popular items within the first couple hours after they start (i.e. before you go to bed), most likely they will be OOS by the time you wake up in the morning.

I'm on the fence myself. If they had put more AAA I'd prolly bite immediately. I got quite a few rechargeable AA already

these batteries tend to sell out fast. so if you're gonna wait for the price to drop... it'll probably be OOS.

Can almost guarantee that the batteries will be oos by morning

Since they were recently $15 AR I am getting a couple to try. If they drop the price, I will try price matching with my Discover card. Made in Japan rechargeables are touted as the best, hope to find out that is correct.

I take it you both believe these 12 batteries at $7.49 AR is a good enough deal that a lot of people will buy them and they'll be OOS. Other people were saying this is a so-so deal so I wasn't sure they would hit the sufficiently popular level to go OOS in the morning. The problem is I don't follow the rechargeable battery market so I don't know prices or good quality brands. In fact, the last rechargeable batteries I bought were those $20 Sanyo Eneloop packs from Costco 5-10 years ago. Then I lost them somewhere in the house. Otherwise I wouldn't need any.

Maybe I should just buy 1 pack so I can go to bed. The truth is I only use rechargeable batteries for 2 things: Xbox 360/One controllers and portable AM/FM radios.

If you don't need them, let someone who can use them get a chance. I had a gift card to use up, so 2 = 39.99 shipped
Edit - Also, eneloop is made by Fujitsu from what I have recently been reading when planning to buy some.

I figure people will buy at least 1 or 2 packs just for the batteries. Even if the batteries are so-so, it is roughly $8 (accounting for stamp cost, etc) 12 batteries.

I do need them only because I can't find my old Sanyo Eneloops (which I hope will still work after 5-10 years of non-use if I ever do find them).

So $8 (if we include stamp) for 12 of these batteries is better than the usual sale prices?

This is a really good price for the batteries alone (the charger is crap). The best price I've seen for these Fujitsu/Eneloop batteries is $1.25 each (excluding the rare FAR deal that newegg had around cyber monday).

1) These are made in Japan by FDK in the same factory as Panasonic Eneloops.
2) This is an historic price low by $7.50 for this 12-Pack Kit. The Black Friday/Cyber Monday pricing was $14.99 AR for the same item. Yes, there was a one-off FAR deal on Fujitsu AA's, but that rarely happens.
3) Anyone saying this isn't a deal clearly doesn't follow rechargeable battery pricing. This is $0.62 per cell.
