My irrigation guy recommended the hunter hpc face panel for a smart controller. It's a new hunter product and it just replaces the face panel on the pro-c controller. Will obviously only work for you if you have the hunter pro-c controller. I haven't the HPC sold anywhere yet, so I don't know the pricing. I was told it is functional without a mobile device so it's easier for the blowouts and restarts if you have a company do those for you.

Edit: it looks like this product is being sold on amazon now by third party seller for around $130.

Yea. The RACHIO is a far better product and allows you to do far more than the hunter line. Hunter line is a very basic product.

Even this new HPC product with Hydrawise? What can the racchio do that this cannot?

That's a different hunter controller. It's $200 vs $130 for the one I mentioned. The cost seems to be the biggest complaint. The other differences are home automation and EPA water save, both of which I can live without since I have a well and don't see a need for home automation. I'm still missing the big advantage of me completely changing to racchio. I'll continue to research.

Biggest is the automation. Along with with setup controls for me.

This is a darn good price. The 8-zone unit hovers around the $200 mark and I've never seen the 16-zone unit under $250. I used a couple of $10 gift cards that Best Buy just sent me for using Fast Store Pickup during the holidays (the result of other deals here) and got it for $191 with in-store pick-up.

I highly recommend the Rachio. It's set it and forget it. The setup is very easy. Once you set the times to water it adjusts itself throughout the year to water for more/less time. Then will skip watering for recent rains and freezes.

I am a home builder and purchased Rachios for my personal home and two model homes. They have worked great. The unit on my personal home paid for itself in the first watering season. The Rachio's watering algorithm is supposedly one of the best. The Rachio gives you the opportunity to identify your soil type, plant or lawn type, amount of slope and sunlight, to completely cater a watering program. Its ability to monitor the weather and skip a water cycle due to a forecast of rain event(s) is awesome. The mobile access is nice, but the features above are what sets the Rachio on top for me.

In the research I have done, Rachio is the best smart sprinkler controller. It can save up to 50% on your water bill, most getting a 30% savings. It adjusts to the weather and makes watering you lawn much more intuitive. The 16 zone for 199.99, is the same price as the 8 zone. Guess it's only a good deal if you have more than 8 zones or plan on expanding your system at some point.

This is a great price for the 16 zone controller. It's being sold for the price of the 8 zone. I also love mine, it's great. Set it and forget it. It adjust itself based on a number of factors including weather, soil, & season.

I put mine in myself replacing some 1990's era garbage controller. My sprinkler guy saw it and said it was best smart controller on the market for the price.
