Just FYI for those interested, this is a wireless access point only, it will not replace a wireless router, and setting it up requires running a program from a computer or (I think) a mobile app. This is helpful for adding coverage to your network, and it does that very well!

I use this in my home and it does work great. Additionally, I own stock in the company (so I should be very favorable in my endorsement). However, the only thing I would note here for people looking at buying is that it is more geared for reliability and ability to handle load of a lot of connections. When I got fios, the verizon quantum gateway wifi was faster than the unifi ap. I tried the hd as well and had similar results getting just under 400mbps. It is certainly more than adequate for my use, but not maxing out the capacity of my macbook pro or my fios.

I have this AP and it is great. Range and throughput are great. Covers my whole 3700sqf house and well into the yard.

Last time it was on the front page I got it for $5 cheaper. With the $10 discount it is even a better deal.

Is it compatible with all routers? I have a t-mobile asus ac1900. Is it pretty easy or hard to set up? Thanks Confused

If I understand it right, I will need to run ethernet cable from the router to this thing to make it work? Or is it wireless.

It should be compatible. The setup is super simple through a web interface. All you will need is an ethernet cable from the router to the hot spot. If the router supports poe, thats all, otherwise, you will need to use a poe injector which the ap comes with (thats a plug that goes on the router side of the ethernet cable) to allow for powering the device.

You will need to run the unifi program to use it. You can do so with either an always on PC, installed on a raspberry pi, or with the unifi cloud key. I started with just the AP lite and the same router you have and it worked great. I have since replaced my router with the ubiquti usg and a cloud key (after experimenting with a raspberry pi install). Just a note if you install the unifi software on a PC it doesn't necessarily have to stay on - you just won't have a way to add SSIDs or management of the access point while it is off.
