No. The 5" goes through 1 layer of media to trap dust. Stacking 5 would result in significant resistance since now you are going through 5 layers. Possible furnace damage and definitely reduced airflow.

Would not be recommended. It would be very restrictive of airflow to have multiple filters and it would not be good on your fan.
Now if you could make a 4" spacer to go in there with it....

The 5" filters do have a reason for being so thick. They allow more air to pass through them with the increased surface area. So I'd stick with the 5" filters.

Has anyone used these filters before? If so how is it compared to the name brand filters?

In for 2 18x24x1 filters and 2 12x12x1 filters using 4 different accounts. Used a debit card that had $2.05 left on it for payment for those accounts. Also got 2 referrals, so hopefully I get 2 more filters for free. Thanks OP!

l o l you used the same card for all 4 accounts ? ha ha ha i've been caught this way by google but i've found a better way . if you got yourself a capital one card and an actual CC not a prepaid then download the chrome extention capital one go - when you get 2 the checkout page it will pop up a box and make up a new CC # for each transaction !

edit: and you cant specify a dollar amount like with citi however after the transaction completes just delete the VC . . .

They can be used for multiple applications depending on the needs of the filtering device/size of the filter, but yes most people would probably be using it for air conditioners.
