Can anyone recommend what is better, this or the Nest Thermostat E? Looks like they are the same price so I'm not sure which one I should go with.

What does an asterisks mean next to the price? One 30 minutes away says it has 3 for $75*

Looking to buy two of these so perhaps worth the drive at that price if it's for real. I reckon calling probably won't do any good....

Get the nest if your current thermostat doesn't have a common white(I think that's the right one). Overall the ecobee3 is WAY better than the Nest. Especially the fact that it monitors the temp in multiple rooms via room sensors and averages the temp that way. Or anyway you would like for that matter.

Asterisk means that is the lowest price in your area.

Wondered the same thing. Wish it was $75 in my area (to help with the decision).

I switched from a Nest to Ecobee 3 (Costco deal w/3 sensors) yesterday. Was a mini-fiasco since I didn't have a common wire. Had to call for help which cost me an additional $69 (to wire the C connector workaround harness Ecobee provides).

Aggravating that I had to piss away my utility rebate on a service call, but whatever. I need the sensors since my basement and main/upper floors are like 20 degress different at all times. Not sure yet if the sensors will actually do anything (besides roast the 3rd floor when it's cold downstairs and the heat runs) but we will see.

But year, if you don't have a C wire (common) good luck. The adapter they include looks easy to install, but my experience was anything but. Kept getting wiring errors and it took the HVAC guy an hour to sort out.

If you have a small, single story house, get the Nest. If you have one HVAC and multiple floors, the Nest is too dumb for it, IMO. Get an Ecobee w/multiple sensors.
