VeraEdge Vera Edge Z-Wave Gateway Hub Controller - $59.99 Free Shipping No Tax for Most States

The Smartest House has the Edge on sale. This is the lowest I've seen and SD search says the same. Tax in NJ (possibly NY as well). TSH is a business that almost does not exist anymore - they reply to emails, help, suggest, offer returns - easier than anybody else.

If you have reviewed one of their items, they usually email 5% coupon (doesn't expire for months). If you don't have it, you can submit a review Monday morning (or now) and most likely get the coupon same day.

I am actually wondering if I should migrate to Vera, with all the recent SmartThings outages it gets super annoying to be part of the "cloud". If anyone had done it - please share your thoughts.

Yeah, seriously. Not only has the cloud been down so much lately; they also keep breaking stuff. I woke up one morning after a hub firmware update to find half my zigbee devices wouldn't work until I rediscovered them. It really hurts the family acceptance.

I've got a Raspberry Pi so I was looking into hass.io. But that's a bit too much editing config files by hand for my tastes. I used to be really into that stuff, but I have so little free time these days. I just want things to work. It really sucks waking up on Sunday morning and having to visit the Smartthings forums to figure out why your lights wont turn on.

Try looking at vera plus which is one generation up and support zigbee sensor too, more sensor support but little expensive

Been running the Edge since release. Love the fact that once you set it up, you do not need internet to run it. Everything is run locally.

That will make this 100 times better than smartthings then. Now the only question is will it support all my z-wave and zigbee devices?

Might have to go with Vera Plus cuz I know that supports Zigbee. Not sure about the Edge.

I'd love a Vera plus but I suspect the huge community of support and huge database of every supported item with smartthings would be a large loss, and I'd wind up losing many devices
EDIT-read Amazon reviews and playstore reviews, Vera is not ready for primetime, laggy, lack of documentation & support. I'm going to stick with smartthings and get cellular backup connection. smartthings clouds only been down once in the last 5 months for me and in case my internet goes out I'll use the cellular to maintain connection

You'll need the plus to use your zigbee devices. I've been running the plus for a couple years now. Solid software and hardware, user interface isn't the best but it works.

Curious where you live. I'm on East coast and have 1 outage in last 5 months, smartthings is better than my cable company

You owe it to yourself to just go look at Vera app reviews and amazon reviews of Vera products before jumping ship, it certainly changed my mind
