Any time one is marketed as 170 degree fov, I'd look elsewhere. All the pixels are wasted on the dash, hood, and sky. Still plenty to place fault, but a narrow fov can do just the same.,while providing more useful detail.

I just installed this dash cam two days ago and so far it looks and works fine. This is my first dash cam so I don't know what the experts look for or what not.
After reviewing the videos recorded, the quality is great, it shows the cars infront and on the side lanes (if they're in front) . I have a visual of the license plates and records at a good frame rate in my opinion. If you're looking for something cheap that records decent video footage then you should consider this dash cam.

Main Con i have is that the cable management sticky pads aren't sticky. There seems to be little adhesive on them and you can only plant the little 3m pads once. Otherwise they'll be non sticky and you have to find alternative adhesives like double sided tape.

Other than that it works perfectly fine for me and so far I like it. Albeit I've only used it for two days and this is my first dash cam.

Wait, how is it providing more details than a 170?

Same reason a telephoto lens allows you to zoom in to see more details. You only have 2 million pixels to work with at 1080p. At 40 feet away, a 170 fov will not have enough pixels to resolve a license plate. a 90 fov will. Zoom even more and you can read a plate hundreds of feet out, or get facial details of drivers (rear facing camera, and through rear and side mirrors).

Pixels per foot is greater with a more narrow fov.

Seeing your fenders with a wide fov versus the header panel with a more narrow lens won't really help anything,
